Vintage Sanitation and Hygiene Poster — The Sivartha Chart No. 2 (1886)
This 1886 chromolithographic wall chart by Dr. Alesha Sivartha visually promotes moral and physiological hygiene through vivid illustrations. At its center, it contrasts a healthy, well-ventilated room ("A Room with Lungs") with a stagnant, unhealthy one ("A Room Without Lungs"). Surrounding diagrams show the harmful effects of alcohol, poor air, and restrictive clothing on the body, including diseased organs and chemical structures. The chart reflects Sivartha’s vitalist belief in the unity of physical and spiritual health.
