Frontispice du Tome II des Antiquit??s romaines 1756

Giovanni Battista (also Giambattista) Piranesi (4 October 1720 - 9 November 1778) was an Italian engraver and architect. His engraved plates, of very dramatical intonation, are characterised by a roman idea of dignity and magnificence. The grandeur and the isolation of the representation of the architectural elements sublimate the roman Antiquity.
